Metal Feathers come out of hiding tonight at SPACE

Metal Feather’s performing at 2011’s HillyTown Party Barge

We hope you’ll forgive us for forgetting momentarily about Portland’s Metal Feathers — but we are quick to forgive lapses in activity for anything that we know has a proven track record in Portland over here at HillyTown.

So yes, the fact is that it’s been over two years since they released an album with Handful of Fog through New Hampshire DIY label Teenarena Records — which we still think is a great record, despite what others thought of it at the time.

But now, the Lobley boys are taking Metal Feathers out of hibernation for their first show in…we aren’t totally sure, perhaps as far back as November 2013? (Edit: Our slightly ongoing investigation also brought us to last year at Empire with Leveret and Foam Castles) Tonight at SPACE with No Joy, and Grooms.

So why are we so psyched about tonight’s show? Did you lose your copy of Contrast Eats The Slimey Green? Let’s start there — it’s streaming for free over at the band’s Soundcloud, which is still up and running — unlike the scary void that is their Bandcamp.

On the other end of the activity spectrum for tonight’s show is Brooklyn’s Grooms — whose mix of weirdo post-punk and electronica has thrust them into the oxymoronic space of “Pitchfork famous.”

Their newest release, Comb the Feelings Through Your Hair can be streamed for free over at their (still very active) Bandcamp.

And what can we say about Montreal’s No Joy? They’ve been around for a number of years and rode the Deerhunter shoegaze-revival of 2010-2013 with a smattering of great releases through the Indie imprint, Mexican Summer.

But much like Metal Feathers, N0 Joy’s last full-length release was Wait To Pleasure in 2013 — however, a new single released two days ago also served as an announcement that their newest album, More Faithful, will drop on June 9th.

The show, which at the very least will provide (hopefully) another launching pad for Metal Feathers starts at 8 p.m. tonight at SPACE and is $8 at the door.
