First Look Inside: Bayside Bowl!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking a tour through the new Bayside Bowl with owner Charlie Mitchell (pictured above). It’s a 12-lane bowling alley located at 58 Alder Street in the Bayside neighborhood of Portland. In addition to top-notch lanes for serious leagues and casual bowlers alike, Bayside Bowl follows in the footsteps of venues like Brooklyn Bowl and Asbury Lanes in doubling as a live music venue.

With a full kitchen, bar (with 14 beers on tap in the plans), and stage comparable in size and orientation to that of Empire, it looks like this will bring a lot more people out to Bayside for entertainment. Between this and its neighbor The Apohadion, music fans will be able to find a wide range of concerts in this small corner of town. Open daily to provide drinks and bowling in the afternoon with food at 4pm, the kitchen will serve until midnight, with various bowling rate specials throughout the week.

Though it’s still under construction (and there are quite a few details to be had) it is definitely coming along quite nicely. At some point in the future, outdoor space will be incorporated into the venue, adding to the full-service entertainment capacities of Bayside Bowl. Inside, for those of you who may not be able to swing it with real bowling, you can always hide yourselves away near the entrance where two skeeball machines will make their home. I’m warning you now: this is where you’ll find me, and I get pretty competitive. If I learned nothing else living in NJ, I at least picked up some mean skeeball techniques on the boardwalk.

Bayside Bowl is expected to open in mid-late May, so check back here and keep an eye on their blog for updates.
