Anyway, here are some recommendations for those of you planning to head out on the icy streets tonight for gallery openings and other fun!

They may not have a featured art show this month, but this analog-loving photography store will have their doors open for one last FFAW before they close next week. Stop in and pay your respects.

When you’re done walking, head down to 41 Wharf St. in the Old Port for tonight’s installment in Rogues Gallery‘s First Friday Film Series: A Bell In The Yard by Jeffrey Griecci plus Orson Welles’ Touch of Evil.

Of course you can always cap your night off with a rock show. Tonight the frontrunner for big local concerts is the dual Lucid/Space Vs. Speed release at Port City. Looking for something a bit cozier? Down in Biddeford, Boston’s excellent David Wax Museum (who are kinda blowing up all over the place this week) are also celebrating a new release, with a sure-to-be-packed (and lively!) show at The Oak + The Ax.

2. Rogues Gallery gets in on the film . . . → Read More: Movies To Watch, Art To See.]]> It’s First Friday in Portland again! Lots of fun happening around town to be enjoyed. Let’s start with two unique movie experiences:

1. The Apohadion hosts the Portland premier of Harmony Korine’s weirdo film, Trash Humpers. That’s $6, starts at 8:30pm, 107 Hanover Street in Bayside.

2. Rogues Gallery gets in on the film screening action with a free “Bike-In Movie Series” showing of Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man along with the animated short Bonefeather. Refreshments will be available (including a popcorn cart, for those of us who know that food served on wheels is always better) and it also starts at 8:30pm.

There’s plenty of art to be found – as always a complete guide can be found here. I’m (not surprisingly) particularly excited about the opening of Some. Things. Curious. at SPACE Gallery. If you like a little music with your art, head to Sanctuary at at 31 Forest Ave around 6pm for a rare performance by Hi Tiger, the Portland-based band led by Derek Jackson, whose show “BEFORE THE DAYS WHEN NEGRO MUSICIANS WERE THE FASHION IN MONTMARTRE” will be on display. The work is described as “exploring themes of obsession, denial and regret. Lyrics from the song ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart‘ by the post-punk band Joy Division are combined with actual text messages between estranged lovers and juxtaposed with self portraits of the artist performing deconstructed rituals of romantic obsession.” Yeah, check that one out.

The contest will end and winners will be picked at about 4pm today. After that you’ll have to purchase tickets here.

In other festival news, the full Nateva schedule has been announced. The Port City Music Hall Stage looks to be the hangout spot, starting early on Thursday July 1 (before the rest of the festival) and going very late every night. For those of you looking for all that amazing indie rock happening, you’ll want to shuffle between the two main stages on Friday and Saturday to catch (in order) Magic Magic, The Felice Brothers, Passion Pit, Ghostland Observatory, Brenda, Drive-By Truckers, She & Him, Grizzly Bear, and The Flaming Lips. I might suggest capping Saturday night off (if you’re left with any energy) by partying with the excellent Toubab Krewe on the Barn Stage. Get your weekend and day passes ($89 each) here.

Now, on to tonight’s Art Walk and happenings! Most events happen between 5-8pm:

• Bayside Bowl opens this evening! Check out the new bowling alley/bar/restaurant/music venue in the Bayside neighborhood. Next Saturday’s Marie Stella cd release show will be your first chance to see a concert there.
• At Mayo Street, Sara Wilmot and Arthur Fink are showing photos in an exhibit entitled Visual Passion. Tango Mucho Labia will perform.
• At Corduroy, 13 year-old Portland proto hipster Leander Johnson celebrates a tri-unveiling of a photo exhibit, a 1966-themed zine, and an album created with the help of Justin Taylor and Ian Paige. The trio will perform a special live ambient electronic score.
• Two new exhibits are debuting at SPACE Gallery tonight. Both looked great when I stopped in for a sneak peak, and I highly recommend spending some time checking them out.
• Local Sprouts Cafe and the Bomb Diggity Bakery will open their doors from 5-11pm and host a food-inspired art exhibit (which includes two of the food-themed SPACE Gallery posters created by myself and Kris Johnsen) along with performances by the Potato Pickers, Lady Zen, D. Gross, Jazz, Peter Hazen, Heidi Vierthaler and more.
• Two Point Gallery opens with Honey Cling To Me: The Bear Paintings by Derek Jackson.
• Portland Pins finds a new home at The Green Hand Book Store [661 Congress, Portland]!

For music there’s Jakob Battick performing solo at Slainte and the interesting combination of Over A Cardboard Sea, Hessian, and Batshelter at Geno’s. Looking to dance? Hit Port City for a free party with Atomik and The Filth at 9pm!
