In August, HillyTown photographer Conall O’Brien headed out to the weekend waterfront concert portion of KahBang Festival 2011 in Bangor, Maine. He caught sets from Atmosphere, Atomic Tom, Billy Libby, Brenda, Chromeo, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Grand Hotel, Jamal HD, Jeff Beam, Kenya Hall, Kingsley Flood, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, Lazer Disk Party Sex, Lupe Fiaso, My Morning Jacket, Pete With and the Kosmik Zombies, Sea Level, Sly Chi (w/ Spose), Surfer Blood, the Brew, the Lucid, the Milkman’s Union, This Way, When Particles Collide, and Will Gattis. This show, promoted by KahBang, was originally scheduled to take place at the Maine State Pier, but eventually moved next door to the Ocean Gateway Waterfront to accommodate the high demand for tickets. Wiz Khalifa was the big draw, but openers Big Sean and Chevy Woods seemed to be getting plenty of attention from the crowd as well. The overwhelmingly young crowd made for some awkward management of the space – it was initially split down the middle, but when it became apparent that the 21+ side wouldn’t be filling up much, the barrier was moved with a lot of confusion from those clutching beers and being herded back, further from the stage. Once that was sorted out, the flood of general admission ticket buys rushed in and filled the whole area, eagerly anticipation the huge show. We had limited access and the crowd was so packed in towards the front, but David got some great shots regardless. Read on for photos from all three acts.

It must be the day of festival lineup announcements. Earlier we got the dirt on Picnic and just now word on Bangor’s KahBang Festival (August 6-14) came in. Last year we had an amazing time and took lots of photos at the festival’s first run, and we’ve already given away a couple of tickets to this year’s festivities, which includes both a film festival and expanded music festival. We’re particularly excited to see some locals (Jacob & The House Of Fire, Billy Libby, In The Audience, Grand Hotel, The Sea Captains, Good Kids Sprouting Horns, Holy Boys Danger Club to name a few) in the mix with national acts like The Gay Blads, OK Go, and FREE ENERGY! We had a lot of fun at the first annual KahBang Festival in Bangor, Maine last year. Now, with their second year, it’s looking like what was already off to a strong start is going to be much, much bigger this time around – all from August 6-14th. Great national acts such as OK Go, Free Energy, The Gay Blades, and Biz Markie alongside buzzy locals Good Kids Sprouting Horns, Grand Hotel, and Holy Boys Danger Club is looking like a solid lineup to me. Want to go to the festival? Here’s your chance.
