Who Mavis Staples / Neko Case When Thursday, March 24, 2011 8:00pm – All Ages Where Stone Mountain Arts Center (map) 695 Dug Way Road Brownfield, ME, USA Other Info Billy Bragg had to cancel his US tour with Mavis. He most unfortunately had been dealing with his mother who was in critical condition and has now since passed away. Our thoughts are with Billy and we will miss his visit…he is one of my favorites too.
But……….
*Neko Case has graciously accepted to step in and perform in his place to make this one very cool double bill once again. This Grammy nominated Canadian indie singer songwriter is a force to be reckoned with, and is a perfect compliment for Miss Mavis and her big band.
*Soul and Gospel legend, Mavis Staples is history, plain and simple. As a member of the equally legendary Staple singers she is part of a rich past of socially conscious music and spirit. The Lifetime Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee was honored as one of Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Singers of all time. She has blessed us by being here three times and each time she and sister Yvonne visit they feel more and more like one of the family. She recently won a grammy for her album that she did with Jeff Tweedy…Go Mavis!!
