This Monday, April 18, Iron & Wine plays a sold out show at The State Theatre in Portland.
The first thing you’ll notice about Iron & Wine‘s latest, Kiss Each Other Clean (Warner Bros. Records), is that it somehow has a very different feel from Sam Beam’s previous releases. No, this isn’t a case of a new producer coming on board, or a band changing direction, but simply another development in the evolution of Iron & Wine (though perhaps a bit more vocal studio trickery stands out than in the past). In the studio, Beam was joined by members of Califone, Doveman, Antibalas, and Chicago Underground Duo. Live, the full band is fleshed out even more with horns, wind instruments, multi-instrumentalists, and percussion.
The tour (with support from The Low Anthem through April 27) is just about a week in and will continue through the month, with another leg picking up at the end of May, culminating at Bonnaroo. Full dates and a Daytrotter Session video after the jump. The other day, a few extra tickets for the State Theatre show were made available, but they appear to be gone now. Sometimes it’s worth checking in at the box office (or just paying attention to the venue Facebook page and Twitter) to see if any more pop up the day of the show.
