Last weekend, a show with a spectacular lineup popped up in Kittery, having been moved from a venue in NH. Looks like the story is repeating itself, as this Friday, the Daytrotter Barnstormers 5 show (with Deer Tick, We Are Augustines, and more) has also been moved from NH to the venue pictured in this post. Words and photos by Matt Dodge.
Originally planned for a farm in New Hampshire, the Runnymede Project Benefit Show crossed the border into Maine when compliance issues with the town forced organizers to find a new site for the event. Read on…
Coming out in May as a dual-cassette, Electric Temple Presents: Gaman – A Ceremony for Japan, is 24 tracks of ambiance, noise, psych, lo-fi bedroom garage pop, and everything in between, with proceeds going to Shelterbox, who are working to provide emergency shelter and essential supplies to families impacted by disasters. Portland’s own Herbcraft contributes the track “Sunset Glow“, nestled up against Sic Alps (one of the more widely-known participating acts on here, as far as I can tell). Portland music fans might also recognize Animal Hospital, the one-man band/electronic noise machine persona of Kevin Micka, who has played in town a few times (but is probably due for another visit soon). Preview the album below or go to purchase the digital version or here for one of the 200 tapes. Thanks to the always-awesome Impose for a head’s up on some of the extra details about the tape release and benefit info around this release. Now that Time-Lag/Iele Tree has closed up shop, a new business is coming to the Arts District in Portland, right above Strange Maine. On Wednesday, September 1st, Moody Lords will hold their grand opening at 578 Congress St. #2F in Portland, Maine. A new collective will take over the spot, maintaining a similarly eclectic, finely curated selection of goods. Madeline Leach (who has an excellent history of local business experience courtesy of Material Objects, Ferdinand, and Find) heads up the team with vintage clothing, along with Andrew Chang, Jake Millet (both formely of Bull Moose), and Adam Brokos to offer records and used/vintage electronics alongside local vinyl courtesy of Time-Lag and vintage clothing from Hand-Me-Down-Owl. The store’s hours will be Tuesday through Sunday, 11am-6pm. They can be reached at 207-773-9363. Help the new business kick things off with a fundraising party at The Big Easy on August 22nd. |
