Somehow hip hop has snuck into HillyTown over the past couple of weeks, I’d be curious to see what readers think about that – and if it’s something you’d like to see more of.
Last night I stopped by Port City Music Hall to check out the J. Cole show, since I figure that if somebody who is said to be a “hot new star” is playing in town, it’s worth seeing. Unfortunately, J. Cole’s tour manager didn’t want any photos taken and made sure that nobody was anywhere near the stage, so I have no photos of his set (which was ok, but really didn’t do a whole lot for me). What I did shoot – and enjoy much more than I anticipated – was local opener SPOSE. I haven’t been following the story of Wells, Maine’s most well-known rapper too closely, but I do know that he has a bit of a hit song in the track “I’m Awesome” and will probably have a pretty big 2011. Also, his live show is great and worth checking out even if you’re not sure the music is for you – you might be pleasantly surprised.
Read on for photos from the show.

Matt, you gotta read The Cask by Edgar Allen Poe, its a short story, and the song comes from that.
I think it was a good song, the video was strange but whatever.
Spose has an Indie feel that I think some people miss because of his track “I’m Awesome”. If people dig hip hop at all, check out his first album, Preposterously Dank, and see how damn talented Spose is.
eh, that torture fantasy video he did from this summer really turned me off. leave the hardcore stuff to wu-tang and biggie plz
I LOVE SPOSE<3
