State Theater. Finally?

It’s not quite the confirmation that we’re all looking for, but it’s at least looking good: through all the speculation and rumors, there is now at least some solid info out there about the renovation of the State Theater. Read the Press Herald article here, and if you happen to have a couple million dollars and experience running a large venue, perhaps you can be the one to take it over, when it’s ready.

Theodore Treehouse Review

Last week Theodore Treehouse played at Slainte as part of their Mardi Gras celebration. I wrote a review of the show which appears in this week’s Portland Phoenix, and can be seen online here. The photo above is from that performance.

Where You Been, Whatchya Seen?

I was away for the weekend and am still catching up.

Jon Donnell was at the HillyTown Presents show last Thursday at the Apohadion and took these photos:

Jon was ALSO at the Mayo Street Arts event on Saturday, a concert that included Asian Mae, Thunderbow/Brushes With Death, and Hobgoblin. Check out his photos:

The new venue has announced another show, this time taking it in a more electronic direction, with Computer At Sea and id m theftable. That should definitely be interesting in that space! Also, there is currently an art studio/small office space available in the building, so if you’re interested take a look here!

HillyTown Presents TONIGHT!

I know it’s a bit of a busy night around town, but I’ve got a great show for you, and it starts early (7pm). If you haven’t checked out The Apohadion yet, this is a great opportunity. See you tonight!

Tomorrow, El Jezel and Metal Feathers pair up again in Allston for a show at O’Briens. If you fall madly in love with the Jezels tonight (you just might), you could even go so far as to follow them all the way back to NYC, where on Saturday they open for Man In Gray (my old band) at our reunion show at Union Hall.

Also tonight, though many miles away, our own Dilly Dilly will be wowing the East Village crowd with a show at The Stone, curated by Kayo Dot’s Toby Driver.

48 Hour Free Albums

Ok, so it’s not actually 48 hours of free music, but rather the 6 bands created during the 48 hour-long experiment last February at SPACE Gallery have recorded albums, which you can now download for free! Get them here (click on the albums on the right side to go through each of them) and enjoy! I’m especially loving the Snack Island songs, and sort of wish that band would have continued after the initial project. Which one is your favorite?

The official release party is tomorrow at Flask (unfortunately conflicting with both the HillyTown show at Apohadion and Mates Of State at PCMH), with performances by Hessian, Aok Suicide Forest, and I Barbarian.

No More Atomic

Some things just don’t last forever… looks like Atomic Tuesdays at Styxx are over (for now), though the Atomic party promises to come back before long in another form.

New Antlers Video

They may not be from Portland (or Maine, for that matter) but the Antlers have been here to play a few times and I know there are some fans, so here’s their new video for the song “Bear.”

The Rocket Launches A Wintery Mix

I know it’s a bit of a music style diversion compared to what usually gets attention here on HillyTown, but check out this Winter mix of house/funk music (none of which I am at all familiar with) from Todd “The Rocket.” It could be a nice soundtrack to a bit of your work day.

Portland Loves You.

Just in time for V-Day (I wonder which copy shop the Bandit is holed up in right now!), the Phoenix has published their extensive list of “Portland’s Most Influential” and it’s great to see the names of so many amazing creative talents and hard-working individuals on there. I was interviewed for the Music section of the article, for which I am in some top-notch company with some of Portland’s best talent. Thanks!

Don’t forget, you can still vote for HillyTown in the Phoenix Best Poll!
