This week’s episode of BreakThruRadio‘s program Spotlight On The City takes a look at our very own scene here in Portland, Maine. Featured bands include many HillyTown favorites: Dead End Armory, Brenda, Phantom Buffalo, Honey Clouds, Micah Blue Smaldone, Chriss Sutherland, and Fire On Fire, among others. Check it out here! We had our first official HillyTown.com sponsored event recently – November 30th at Geno’s. Thanks to everybody involved and all who attended. Special thanks to the bands that played – Huak, Cougars Kill Cobras, and Brooklyn’ Cinema, Cinema. Check out the full photo gallery from the event here. Keep a lookout for flyers on the “Featured Events” section to the right on here for more sponsored shows – as well as other events of particular interest (which reminds me – there’s an open house at the Masonic Temple in downtown Portland this weekend, there aren’t any bands playing but those buildings are always pretty amazing and worth checking out). Details on the next HillyTown Presents event coming soon!
Months ago the Port City Music Hall announced, via signs in the window of their perpetually-reconstructing space, that a Fall opening was imminent. A couple weeks ago the report came out that the big unveiling would go down on New Years, but this week the Phoenix announced that the date had been pushed back yet again. At least this time it’s clear that progress is being made – the Stadium lettering has been taken down and as of today the facade had been repainted white (primer, I’d guess – hopefully it doesn’t stay that way and then grow a trunk). Anyway, while details are still few and far between, it’s obvious that an opening is coming (I mean that is what their print ad campaign says, right?) plus they’re apparently looking for bands to submit – via Sonicbids – to participate in a monthly concert series. There’s pay involved, so it could be worth looking into. For more info/updates on PCMH, check out their website (or possibly this PMF member’s page). |
