This is huge news for the Portland rock club: Port City Music Hall (which recently expanded it’s seated area and added a kitchen) will no longer be limited to 21+ age restrictions. Now the club will be open to an 18+ crowd for all shows (unless otherwise noted). Read more about this announcement here. Things have been a little quieter here recently (thanks to a new job at SPACE Gallery and an increasingly busy freelance photography schedule) and this week they’ll go (almost) silent. I’m off in Austin, TX for the annual SXSW Music Festival (or rather all the free/unofficial shows that coincide with every band in the universe being in one place for it). I’ll be back on the 22nd with lots of stories and bands to try to lure back to Portland. See you then! Now in its second year, Bangor’s KahBang Festival is already expanding. They’ve announced the dates as August 6th through the 14th for the festival, which will now include films and art exhibits in addition to the music portion. With this change, even their name is growing: the event is now called KahBang: Music, Art, Film. More details tba. Check out the HillyTown coverage of their first festival here. This is just a friendly reminder to the bands out there – I want you to put me on your mailing list. And your press list, if you have one. This is only for bands in Portland, ME or those that play here frequently (and their publicists, labels, etc). So here goes, it’s hello -at- hillytown.com. When you send show info, please please please include at least the following: Date, venue name and address, cover price, age restrictions, all bands playing, and the start time. If you have a link to purchase advance tickets, that’s great too! Include the flyer for the event (or facebook/last.fm/myspace rsvp link) as well. Not every show that I get sent info on will be listed, but the chance is that if I’ve mentioned the band here before or you’re playing at one of the venues I usually cover, it will be included. I’m also interested in local restaurant, gallery, store, and venue updates. If you have an event (like a party, opening, sample sale, awards event, etc) please let me know! Depending on the nature of the event, it may wind up in the listings (though it’s most likely if there’s a music aspect to it) but I’m more likely to mention it in the news and possible cover it for the site. Thanks! - Bryan |
