Thursday night at Flask Lounge was one of those fun, low-key local shows that just feels so great. A Robot has been doing a great job putting together free shows, and everything aligned to make this one in particular especially fun. It’s no secret that HillyTown loves if and it and Butcher Boy, but it was our first time witnessing the mathy awesome fun of Pamola, and as everybody predicted, they landed right on top of our must-see list after this show. Check out the photos below to get an idea of the fun we all had – it sounded pretty much just like it looks. Read on…
On Thursday, A Robot put together a show with the theme of co-ed bands at Flask Lounge. Rio Bravo, a NH band that reminded me of Be Your Own Pet (or you could say a cross between YYYs and Gossip, but something about their sound was a bit more punk than the artier rock of either of those), started the night out admirably, considering that most of the crowd probably weren’t familiar with them. The Rattlesnakes played in the middle and spread out across the floor (having 5 members requires more room than when the band was a trio!), raising the performance bar for the night with singer Tara making use of as much floor (and couch) space as she could reach with the microphone. Finally, Dementia 5 played last, complementing their heavy garage riffage with a swirling psychedelic video, and announcing that addition of a new member on keys (not for this gig, but presumably beginning with the next one). Read on for some photos! Ok, so it’s not actually 48 hours of free music, but rather the 6 bands created during the 48 hour-long experiment last February at SPACE Gallery have recorded albums, which you can now download for free! Get them here (click on the albums on the right side to go through each of them) and enjoy! I’m especially loving the Snack Island songs, and sort of wish that band would have continued after the initial project. Which one is your favorite? The official release party is tomorrow at Flask (unfortunately conflicting with both the HillyTown show at Apohadion and Mates Of State at PCMH), with performances by Hessian, Aok Suicide Forest, and I Barbarian. |
