Update: Looks like it has been confirmed that this was not a joke, the Nateva Festival really has been canceled this year! Sorry to hear it didn’t work out, and I hope they can get things sorted out to return in 2012. Fact: It’s April Fools Day (did you like our little joke with Jesse Pilgrim earlier today?). With that in mind, here’s a bit of news that just came in via a press release from the publicist at Nateva:
With a nearly full lineup already announced (and moe. having been leaked as a headliner just yesterday) it seems more than a bit odd that this news would come so suddenly… For a joke, taking down the tickets seems like a pretty extreme measure, then again, here we are linking to their ticket page after not mentioning the festival for a little while… they get credit at least for a little self-inflicted potential loss of a few ticket sales. Here it is, kids – the artists playing at the 2011 Nateva Music and Camping Festival, August 4-7 at the Oxford Fairgrounds in Oxford, ME. Here’s who you’ll be able to find on the four stages (with more to be announced as they confirm). Acts who might be of particular interest to readers of HillyTown are highlighted:
Though there aren’t as many heavy hitters of the indie rock variety this year (honestly, it would be hard to top having Flaming Lips, Grizzly Bear, and Passion Pit), Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes definitely fit the indie rock/roots/jam-band crossover that the festival needs. Good call. So what do people think about this? If you already bought tickets, are you happy with what you’re getting for your money? If you didn’t buy tickets, does this lineup do the trick to convince you? Now that bands have been announced, ticket prices went up a bit, and the lowest tier is $189 for the 3-day pass. Get them here. Two-thirds of the HillyTown team covering Nateva were primarily interested in Saturday’s events, but photographer Conall O’Brien was in it for the long haul of all three full days. Here’s his coverage of some of the bands that played in Oxford, Maine on the 4th of July, including the festival headliners, Furthur! Don’t forget to check out our coverage from Friday and Saturday too! George Clinton & P-Funk (with the show-stealing Sir Nose) This is the first of a three-part series of posts covering the Nateva Music & Camping Festival in Oxford, Maine July 2-4.
At Nateva this weekend (where the above photo is from) we caught Portland (and all of Maine’s) best female rapper Sontiago onstage with the rock band Isobell at the beautiful Port City Music Hall stage (imagine taking the real Port City and turning it into a warehouse party and that’s about what it was like!) and today she’s already back to work with another collaboration for you. This time around, what started as an a capella Sontiago song got a full on production treatment from local rock legend Darien Brahms. Listen to “Like Love” below! It’ll take at least a day or two to get everything together for the full writeup on Nateva Festival, but for now I put a few of my photos up for you to check out. Click the nice man with the megaphone to see them, and check back this week for much more! I’ll be posting to the HillyTown Twitter account from the Nateva Festival from tonight through Sunday morning, so follow that or just check back here for updates. We’ll have a full report on what we saw and heard early next week! With so many bands playing, it can be hard to know what you should check out. For me, it’s easy: Saturday is jam-packed with some of my own favorite bands, as well as some Portland locals starting the day off! At 11AM, Isobell wake campers up at the Port City Music Hall Stage before Brenda get going on the Main stage. At noon, Grand Hotel are up at PCMH stage while juggernauts of Maine music, Rustic Overtones, are on the Main stage. Later on in the day, Drive-By Truckers, She & Him, Grizzly Bear, and The Flaming Lips make for an indie rock dream lineup to lead us into the 4th of July. I wonder what Wayne Coyne may have up his sleeve… You can (supposedly – it’s not working for me at the moment) watch streams of performances from the festival here. This 4th Of July weekend will bring a new festival to Maine. the Nateva Music & Camping Festival will take place in Oxford, Maine on July 2,3,and 4th. The event, sponsored by Port City Music Hall, has tickets on sale now, but what exactly do you get for your (currently lowest price) $159? Only one band has been announced so far, but it’s a big one, and probably enough of a draw to get things off to a strong start: The Flaming Lips. Hey, it got my attention! The festival is described as heralding “world class artists in the true Jam Band tradition – as well as a sweet mix of Country, Folk, Reggae, Classic Rock and Indie Artists too,” so it’s interesting that the first band announced happens to come from the last category thrown in there (though the Lips certainly have a certain jam/hippie sensibility that gives plenty of room for crossover). Join their email list to find out which other acts will be joining the lineup. |
