SXSW Music: The Sounds

I’m back from SXSW and catching up on the photos of all the bands I saw there. Here’s another one!

Band: The Sounds / Hometown: Helsingborg, Sweden
Show: Conflict Of Interest Party / Venue: Purevolume House / Date: 3/15

With a brand new album (Something To Die For) being released next week (March 29), The Sounds are still on a roll since their strong reemergence in the past couple of years. The undeniable Blondie comparisons will probably never go away, but this band has a blend of pop, punk, and new wave that’s proven to satisfy. At this late night show presented by music marketing group The Syndicate, the band was in a smaller setting than normal (as is often the case at SXSW) and fans were treated to a special performance that felt much more aggressive than the last time I saw the band. Read on for more photos! Read on…

The Sounds photo gallery (+micro Roundup)

A week ago, Swedish band The Sounds tore through Portland, treating Port City Music Hall like the biggest arena in the world. Their show may have been a bit over the top, but hey, it sure looked and sounded great!

Check out the full photo gallery from the show (which also included openers Hey Champ and local DJ duo H++L) right here.

ps. No big roundup this time. Check out the show calendar for all yr rock show needs. Also, consider the Food + Farm events at SPACE. The 48 Hour Music Fest documentary will be shown at Nickelodeon cinema with two showings on Thursday, June 4th, followed by a special concert the next night at Geno’s, featuring some of the bands from the project. More on that and all other things Portland and music (and chocolate chip cookies – you’ll see…) in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

OK Go Photos + The Sounds Announce Portland Show

I skipped the (reportedly incredible) Lady Lamb The Beekeeper / Sister Suvi show at SPACE on Friday to check out America’s favorite treadmill enthusiasts, OK Go, at the Port City Music Hall. It was one of the smaller venues I’ve seen them in (well, aside from that backyard in Austin 3 years ago, but that doesn’t count) but that didn’t make them tone down the huge rock show antics. Mic-mounted cameras, confetti guns, and gigantic chimes (plus one song played entirely on hand bells) made for a pretty interesting rock show to be crammed onto a Portland-sized stage. Check out my photos of OK Go and openers Longwave here.

Now this is exactly what I like to see – Sweden’s The Sounds have just announced a show at the Port City Music Hall. Get tickets soon, I have a feeling that will be a good one.

Also, I’ve relaunched my personal/music blog, Subinev. I’ll be posting non-Portland bits there, starting this week with South By Southwest!
