New Jacob Augustine Video – “Waco”

Here’s yet another new local music video! Jacob Augustine (who just released three albums) unveiled the appropriately moody clip for his track “Waco” (the lead on The Original Love today.

Jacob Augustine Released Three Albums [11.4.11]

We were already well-aware of the power of Jacob Augustine‘s songwriting and voice, as you can see here, but what does it take to properly celebrate the unveiling of three albums at once? Apparently, an epic show full of talented guest musicians and a whole lot of support. That’s just what Jacob got this past Friday at Port City Music Hall. As our friend Dylan V. made abundantly clear, there were a whole lot of positive vibes going around with the exemplary display of the powers of Portland’s supportive local music scene. Billy Libby (who we just caught at the Portland CMJ showcase) and This Way opened for Jacob Augustine, as he was joined by a backing band including members of Dominic and the Lucid (note: they’ve gone back to the original name, no longer just The Lucid), the Milkman’s Union, and others. Do yourself a favorite and go get Frontier, Goldyhymns (this was the one recorded at Mayo Street Arts, which we got to stop by and check out and make the “Hallelujah Banks” video), and The Original Love (all available for “name-your-own-price”) and enjoy the music while you check out the photos below from the show. Photo Recap: Free Range Fest [4.30.11] – Part 1

The HillyTown team (myself plus three wonderful photographers) had a great time this weekend in Belfast for the Free Range Music Festival. Don’t forget to keep on eye on Mike Cunnane’s blog Brass Cankles (always available on the right sidebar right here!) for videos from some of the bands playing the festival. Here’s the first part of the day in photos from Conall O’Brien, Emily Qualey, and Bryan Bruchman. HillyTown Video: Jacob Augustine

Back in December, we hosted a criminally under-attended show of excellent acoustic music at Mayo Street Arts. The final performance of the night was from Jacob Augustine, whose band – The House Of Fire – had just fallen apart. This was about as intimate as a public concert could get, and those in the room felt it as his strong but fragile voice filled every corner of the former church. The connection was apparent, and Jacob felt it so much that he wanted to come back to the venue as soon as possible – “After my first experience at Mayo Street I have come to the conclusion that this building was built specifically just for me to sing in. Seriously I love it.” On Friday, February 18th, before playing a show there with Hi Tiger, he spent the afternoon recording an album in the space. I stopped by to get a preview and make this video. Just watch and listen, and I think you’ll get the idea.

I realize the camera work isn’t perfect, nor is the sound – consider this an ongoing public education of my own use of a DSLR for video, while wrestling with the restrictions of iMovie for editing. But I’m pretty happy with the results.

Check out Jacob Augustine live opening for Nicole Atkins at Port City on Thursday, this Saturday at the Oak + the Ax or on March 3 at Empire.

HillyTown Presented: Acoustic at Mayo Street [12.9.10]

Last night, five songwriters participated in HillyTown Presents: An Evening Of Acoustic Music at Mayo Street Arts in Portland. Thank you so much to Blainor at Mayo Street and of course Marie Moreshead, D. Gross, Denise Dill, Nate Martinez, and Jacob Augustine for the excellent performances in what felt like the perfect setting for music on a brisk winter night. Read on for photos: Read on…
