They may not be from Portland (or Maine, for that matter) but the Antlers have been here to play a few times and I know there are some fans, so here’s their new video for the song “Bear.”

I meant to post this a while ago. But today is as good as any time! The show it refers to is next Tuesday! Beware the sort of gross chewing sounds.

To think, I almost didn’t mention tonight’s installment of For Your Pleasure: SIN! Featuring dancing from Atomic Trash, Lord Byron, Ahna the Ladybeast, Greybush, and music by DJ Roy (from WMPG), DJ Marcus Caine, and DJ Wolfie Whistle. All tonight at Geno’s for $5. Watch their inspiring (creepy) promotional video below.

It was just yesterday that Peapod Recordings officially released Brown Bird’s excellent new (and more upbeat than some may have expected) album, The Devil Dancing, which our friends at Dog And Pony featured with this interview at the Friendly Toast in Portsmouth.

Already, the band has some more news. In February, they have the opportunity to tour Europe for two weeks with The Low Anthem, but they need to raise some money in order to do it. To do this, they’ve set up a unique donation page where you can purchase an album of unreleased tracks (for $10) or contribute more and get more (from the new album to Brown Bird’s entire catalog).
Download “Danger And Dread” and go here for more samples from the new album.

Have you been to SPACE lately? Maybe you were there for the Halloween party this weekend (in that case, you may be in one of these photobooth shots), or maybe you’ve wandered in during the day. Either way, you’ve surely noticed the intense exhibit taking up 90% of the wallspace inside. Thank NY artists Swoon and her friends for that. Over at the venue’s blog, Have Faith In Worthless Knowledge, you can take a look at a behind the scenes video, courtesy of the two best filmmakers in town named David. Check it out!.

On Friday, Dylan Metrano will bring his new book about the first decade of his band Tiger Saw, All My Friends Are Right Here With Me, and the corresponding tour to Portland with a free, all ages show at SPACE Gallery. The book comes with a cd with 13 tracks featuring other artists covering the work of Tiger Saw. The event will include a reading from the book by the Tiger Saw Family Puppet Players as well as a performance of songs from the new album Washingtons by South China! Check out the videos for a preview of the puppets!

Read on for part two of this chapter from the book, courtesy of the Puppets.

I may be out of town (and apparently missing killer dance parties, a downtown filled with jack-o-lanterns, impending snow, and all sorts of birthdays and assorted ridiculousness) but that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten you, Portland. The big Hell No On One benefit show tonight (with an all ages version tomorrow) – which supports the No One One campaign for protecting marriage equality in Maine – is sure to be quite an event. The creator of the event, Spencer Albee, appeared on DJ Roy’s show Liberation By Sound last week to promote it, and now you can listen to that show on the LBS podcast.

I have to say, Nick and Krister from Dog And Pony do some great work. They filmed all of the performances during my HillyTown OFFStage @ SPACE Gallery concert series last month and are rolling them out in episodes over at their website. This week they present “King Day” by Brooklyn’s Blood Warrior. Check it out below:

Head over to their post for a large video and interview with the band. Today around 4pm, Liberation By Sound on WMPG will feature an interview with the creators of [dog] and [pony] in which they make a big announcement. Tune in!

Liberation By Sound host DJ Roy recently visited the new studio in South Portland built by Ron Harrity (Peapod/PICNIC/Honey Clouds), and along with DJ Miles got some inside info on the construction of this professional studio in a residential neighborhood. Check it out:

Once again, Spencer Albee has a video out promoting a show. Check out the absurd promo video for the As Fast As/Grand Hotel/The Leftovers show this Saturday at Asylum.

That’s not the only thing the former Rusted Overtones member has up his sleeve – to celebrate the release of Spencer And The School Spirit Mafia’s debut, Candy, Cake, And Ice Cream, the band will play free shows at Bull Moose stores next week before the release show on August 1st.

And that’s not all there is – this week the Fall/Winter ‘09 Clash Of The Titans Schedule was announced. There are definitely some interesting battles lined up – some that look good to me are Sex Pistols vs. The Stooges (9/15), SNL vs. Monty Python (9/27), Velvet Underground vs. Portishead (11/3), Interpol vs. The Strokes (11/17), and Jay Z vs. DRE (12/16). These events will continue to be held at Empire Dine & Dance.

In other news (oh right, this does relate…), there have been some changes to the August HillyTown OFFStage Concert Series. Unfortunately (maybe somebody is a little busy?) Sontiago & The School Spirit Mafia won’t be happening at the 8/26 show. White Light will headline that final installment of free music with Blood Warrior and Mark Summers. Cannot Be Stopped were, unfortunately, stopped from touring due to an upcoming cross-country move, so Theodore Treehouse (f/k/a The Cups) will take that slot between Haru Bangs and Boxy (in their first ever performance).
