Lucid / SVS Dual CD Release Show Photos

Dominic Lavoie of The Lucid

Dominic Lavoie of The Lucid

On Friday, February 4, about 500 local music fans came out to Port City Music Hall after the First Friday Art Walk to celebrate new releases by The Lucid and Space Versus Speed. A Boston band called Foxtrot opened with a seemingly very Radiohead/Oasis-influenced sound. Though the SVS recordings I’d heard just weren’t quite my thing, the show was a different beast entirely. Multi-part harmonies and a more aggressive rock sound than what you’ll hear on the record gave it a welcome directness that I hadn’t been anticipating. The band’s appropriately grungy cover of Soudngarden’s “Blow Up The Outside World” fit in just fine, if you look at it that way. The Lucid closed the night and commanded the stage in a way I hadn’t seen them pull off before. In full celebratory mode, they brought out auxiliary drummers, a great Velvet Underground cover, and their best rock show game. Read on for the full photo gallery! Read on…

Dead Man’s Clothes Are Having A Ball (And New Album)

Portland’s “Best New Act” (according to the Phoenix Best Music Poll), Dead Man’s Clothes, have just announced the detail on their release party for their upcoming cd, Ice Is War. The event will take the form of a masquerade ball (masks/costumes encouraged!) at SPACE Gallery on Saturday, August 14. Theodore Treehouse and the Dirty Dishes Burlesque Revue join the festivities, with DJ duo BAM BAM closing the night out in their own special hit-blasting dance party way.

Get a preview of the new jams via a new free digital single, Moving Mountains – it will also be streaming on the “Featured Album” section of this site for the next week.
