On Friday night, o’death returned to SPACE Gallery for a sold out show with Brown Bird and if and it. Brown Bird will be back in the area on February 18 with a show at The Oak + The Ax in Biddeford (which is run by Greg from o’death) before heading down to Texas for SXSW in March and on to the West coast. Read on for photos from Friday night! Read on… Update: Congrats to our contest winner Dorson P. and thanks to everybody who entered! Enjoy the show! OH HEY. We meant to do this when we posted the Brown Bird interview yesterday, but it got lost in the shuffle. Want to go to the show at SPACE on Friday? Email hello@hillytown.com with the subject line “Brown Bird!” to enter to win a pair of tickets to the show. Contest ends at Noon on Wednesday, January 25 and one randomly selected winner will be notified via email. Age restrictions for the show (18+) apply, and the winner’s name will be on the guest list at the door. Good luck! In the meantime, check out photos from the Brown Bird and o’death show in NYC this past weekend at BrooklynVegan. This Friday, Brown Bird returns to SPACE Gallery along with o’death (who by now you should be quite familiar with). Tickets are available online and at Bull Moose. ![]() Brown Bird at PCMH – photo by Huck Photography Interview with David Lamb and MorganEve Swain (aka BrownBird) by Andrew Lapham Fersch What has Brown Bird been up to in the past couple months? David Lamb (DL): We returned home (to Warren, Rhode Island) in the middle of December from a two month tour. Most of which was opening for our friends The Devil Makes Three. We had an amazing time with them. [Check out the HillyTown photos from the PCMH stop on that tour] Read on…
The weekend of December 9th was a busy one in Portland. Here’s the first of a couple posts from that: The Devil Makes Three with opening act (and Portland favorite) Brown Bird at Port City Music Hall on Saturday, December 10. This show was sold out and from what we saw – a nonstop party for about 600 people. If this show was any indication of their growing popularity (sure, we know the headliner had quite a bit to do with it, but still…), you’ll want to pick up advance tickets for the Brown Bird show with o’death at SPACE on January 27 now. Read on for photos, a video clip, and review by Huck Photography. From their Maine roots to their work with Peapod Recordings and occasional involvement of Maine musicians Jeremy and Jerusha Robinson (South China), the duo of David Lamb and MorganEve Swain seem right at home every time they come through Portland (or Biddeford). This summer the band continues their march along the east coast, including a prime slot at the Newport Folk Festival, all in preparation for the release of their new LP, Salt For Salt, October 18 on Supply & Demand Music (where they’ll be in good company with bands like Dark Dark Dark – who they’ll be sharing some dates with – and Vandaveer). We love the cover art by Will Schaff.
Stream the first single, “Fingers to the Bone,” below and read on for tour dates (including a stop in Portland) and the Salt For Salt tracklist.
Though they’ve been hosting shows since their soft opening last month, Biddeford’s The Oak And The Ax (the space formerly known as the Hogfarm Studios Annex), this weekend marks the official grand opening of the venue. Last night, D. Gross, Joe Fletcher And The Wrong Reasons, and Brown Bird kicked things off with a full house. Tonight, Olas keeps it going with a cd release performance for La Perla. Reminder: this is a small room, so get there early to guarantee a seat! Read on for more photos from last night. Read on… Don’t miss this video of Brown Bird performing on WRNI, Rhode Island’s NPR station. I love performance here and the quality of the video is just fascinating – I wonder if a DSLR camera was involved.

They’ll be in town at SPACE on April 23, up at the Belfast Free Range Fest April 24, then back again at Mayo Street on May 1. Get their full schedule on Myspace. It was just yesterday that Peapod Recordings officially released Brown Bird‘s excellent new (and more upbeat than some may have expected) album, The Devil Dancing, which our friends at Dog And Pony featured with this interview at the Friendly Toast in Portsmouth. |
