Bangor Waterfront Shows On The Way

We already know about a healthy dose of live music action on Portland’s waterfront, but up in Bangor (about 2 hours away), the summer is even more packed with waterfront shows. Besides KahBang and the American Folk Festival, Waterfront Concerts has a whole series of events happening on their temporary stage, starting this weekend. […]

Music Fans Need Food Too: Barbecue at Deux Cochon

On Monday I stopped by the grand opening of a new food vendor in the Public Market House in Monument Square right in the heart of downtown Portland. Deux Cochon is – and I need to breathe a sigh of relief every time I say this – an amazing BBQ joint. Yes, in Maine. Last […]

HillyTown Presented: Milagres at OLS [4.23.11]

On a night packed with great shows around town (and in Biddeford!) we headed out to One Longfellow Square for our first time working with the venue that we’ve tend to think of as one of the classier performance spaces in Portland on Saturday night. Recent Kill Rock Stars signees Milagres were the headliner, […]

KahBang 2011 Lineup: MMJ, Surfer Blood, The Gay Blades, Lady Lamb…

Now THIS is the kind of festival I want to see!

For its third year, Bangor’s KahBang Festival really seems to be finding a good niche. They’ve been flirting with indie rock, hip hop, and crowd-friendly rock bands, (all while finding a great audience for one of our favorites, The Gay Blades, who […]

HillyTown Compilation: Free Range Festival Sampler

It’s been difficult keeping this one quiet in the weeks I’ve been putting it together, so I’m excited to finally share the Free Range Festival 2011 Sampler, compiled by HillyTown with the help of the Free Range Fest organizers and participating artists. This 15-track album represents many of the artists playing the April 30 […]

The Milkman’s Union Interview + Exclusive Video

As you know, local trio The Milkman’s Union are playing our HillyTown Presents show this weekend. The band has been hyperactive lately, unveiling a new EP and temporarily streaming a single (with guest appearance by Lady Lamb The Beekeeper) for fans in the past weeks. Here’s another treat from the band: a HillyTown exclusive video, […]

Planets Around The Sun Get Watery, Dubtastic

Portland mind-expanding experimentalists Planets Around The Sun just unveiled the hypnotic new video for “Water Dub” that they’ve been hanging onto for a minute, so now we can all enjoy it.

This isn’t some fancy filter on the video – it was shot this way. The band’s Ian Paige filmed “Water Dub” at the […]

Port City Music Hall Goes 18+

This is huge news for the Portland rock club: Port City Music Hall (which recently expanded it’s seated area and added a kitchen) will no longer be limited to 21+ age restrictions. Now the club will be open to an 18+ crowd for all shows (unless otherwise noted).

Iron & Wine Monday

This Monday, April 18, Iron & Wine plays a sold out show at The State Theatre in Portland.

The first thing you’ll notice about Iron & Wine‘s latest, Kiss Each Other Clean (Warner Bros. Records), is that it somehow has a very different feel from Sam Beam’s previous releases. No, this isn’t a case […]
