Here we are, friends. Another year of HillyTown has gone by and it’s time for another party! Last year, it was 4 Wednesdays in August. This time around, it’ll be 3 Tuesdays in July. Mark your calendars now! All of these shows will be happening at SPACE Gallery [538 Congress St., Portland] and include 3 […]
First order of business: you still have about 5 hours to get your entry in for the KahBang tickets giveaway! Do it now! The contest will end and winners will be picked at about 4pm today. After that you’ll have to purchase tickets here.
In other festival news, the full Nateva schedule has been announced. […]
We had a lot of fun at the first annual KahBang Festival in Bangor, Maine last year. Now, with their second year, it’s looking like what was already off to a strong start is going to be much, much bigger this time around – all from August 6-14th. Great national acts such as OK […]
Foam Castles is Tyler Jackson. Through collaborators, backing bands, and both coasts, the project is essentially a one-man operation. One the eve of the Peapod Recordings debut of Molly’s Jungle (though tonight it’s actually labelmates Honey Clouds‘ party, the album will be available at the SPACE gallery show), I spent some time learning more about […]
The State Theatre is reopening this Fall, with Lauren Wayne as general manager. Note: the above is by no means an official image/logo, as this new partnership and the State will have its own identity.
In NYC, Bowery Presents is the only promoter that matters (in the world of clubs and bars, not so much […]
Just about one year ago, the Tower Of Song Festival filled the streets of Portland with music, and Congress Square with vendors and performers (coincidentally enough, Summer showed up in full forst at the same time). Now, with a new location (just across Congress Street, from a tower to a building), the festival is back […]
Last Friday, May 21, we had a show at Slainte in Portland that included Kyle Wilson of the Brooklyn band Milagres, Selbyville, and Jakob Battick & Friends (in their last full band show until September). There was a great crowd for this show and all of the performances were spectacular. Check out the photos below!

Way back on March 30, local buzz band Theodore Treehouse played a live set on WMPG‘s Liberation By Sound (above photo of the band is from after their set). Now you can listen to the podcast of their whole performance right here!
Read on for photos from the band’s show at Geno’s on Thursday, […]
Brooklyn’s Milagres (formerly known as The Secret Life Of Sofia) craft beautifully ambitious music centered around the work of songwriter Kyle Wilson. Seven Summits is about his obsession with mountain climbing and was recorded on an abandoned farm in Massachusetts.
Download “Outside” by Milagres.
I’ve known Kyle (and the rest of the band) […]
By now you’re used to the name change and feel totally cool calling the rad little bar at 189 Congress Street in Portland Mama’s Crowbar, not any of its previous monikers, right? Ok, great! Then with that in mind, head down (or up, West Enders) Munjoy Hill to the bar at 7pm tonight for the […]
The date for the 3rd Annual Picnic Music+Arts Festival has been announced as Saturday, August 28, 2010! Once again the location will be Lincoln Park on Congress Street and Franklin Arterial, in Portland ME and the festival will run from 11am to 6pm, rain or shine. Go here to apply to be a vendor. […]
It was just a few weeks ago but it feels like much longer. I finally got around to going through my photos from a full day and night of music in lovely Belfast, Maine, at the Free Range Music Fest on April 24. Some personal show highlights included Good Kids Sprouting Horns, The Class Machine […]
Fresh for your eyeballs, directed by the excellent Nick Poulin, is a new video for Brenda’s song, “Blackout.” This track will appear on their upcoming record, Silver Tower, out June 29 on Mckeenstreetmusic.

This is the first of a few HillyTown Presents show announcements that I’ll have for the summer!
On Friday, May 21, I’m happy to finally welcome the music of Brooklyn’s Milagres (formerly known at The Secret Life Of Sofia) to Portland, Maine. Lead singer/songwriter Kyle Wilson will be playing solo at Slainte […]
The other day I noticed that the confusion-inducing Awful Annie’s sign above 189 Congress Street has finally been replaced with the bar’s current name: Mama’s Crow Bar. This is great news, as it’s been difficult to make sure that people know what bar you’re talking about, depending on the name they know it by […]
