Record Store Day Is Coming. Prepare Your Wallets.

For music junkies, Record Store Day is the best sort of blessing and curse. It’s the day when the music industry unleashes a ton of rare, exclusive, limited edition releases upon record stores throughout the world. This year it falls on this Saturday, April 16. Let’s check in with Chris Brown (Bull Moose employee and originator of Record Store Day) to see what’s on his shopping list for this week!

What’s on Chris Brown’s shopping list for Record Store Day?
Nothing, actually. Our customers deserve to have first choice so I won’t buy anything for a few days. Here is a list of the items I will buy if they don’t sell out. [aw.]

TWO Continues Tomorrow: Marie Stella + Metal Feathers

Marie Stella at Port City Music Hall 2-9-10

Word is that the TWO Local Music Series at Port City Music Hall (Tuesdays, two bands, $2 cover, $2 beers) is going well (see photos from last week’s Dilly Dilly + Lady Lamb show there)… and in the interest of a bit of self-promo, here’s the flyer (above) for tomorrow’s installment of the concert series, featuring Marie Stella (the band I play in) with Metal Feathers. MF have a new jam up on their myspace called “City Hall” which I highly recommend you go and listen to, like right now. Very good.

However, before that, there’s tonight. Chicago’s Maps & Atlases are at SPACE with openers Brenda and Dead Man’s Clothes, who will be making their SPACE debut, so come out and support them!

The Best Of The Decade + This Weekend

The Bollard published their list of The 10 Best Local Rock Albums Of The Decade (complete with mp3s). Is your favorite Portland band/album listed there? I’ve heard a few different opinions on what they missed or what shouldn’t have made it on such a list but did, but altogether it seems to make a lot of sense to me.

This weekend is another busy one, starting tonight with the Bakery Photo Collective’s annual fundraising photo auction, Photo A Go-Go from 6-8pm, with music by the venerable King Memphis. Check out a preview of the work available here.

The fun continues tomorrow, with the first PICNIC Holiday Sale, happening at the Irish Heritage Center (34 Gray Street) in Portland. I’ll be there at the Portland Pins table, selling photo prints, pins, and more. Get more info on the event – which will include live music – here. Once you’ve gotten some holiday shopping out of the way, head over to SPACE for the [dog] and [pony] dvd release show, featuring performances by Jacob Augustine, Marie Stella, Jesse Pilgrim, Wes Hartley, and more (including some interesting collaborations). The [dog] and [pony] guys have a new episode up, this time featuring Jakob Battick + Friends.

For more events this weekend, check the showlist.
