Portland’s premier indie psych-popsters (and this site’s namesake) Phantom Buffalo have made a video promoting their upcoming LP, Cement Postcard With Owl Colours. It’s colorful and amazing. At Nateva this weekend (where the above photo is from) we caught Portland (and all of Maine’s) best female rapper Sontiago onstage with the rock band Isobell at the beautiful Port City Music Hall stage (imagine taking the real Port City and turning it into a warehouse party and that’s about what it was like!) and today she’s already back to work with another collaboration for you. This time around, what started as an a capella Sontiago song got a full on production treatment from local rock legend Darien Brahms. Listen to “Like Love” below! It’ll take at least a day or two to get everything together for the full writeup on Nateva Festival, but for now I put a few of my photos up for you to check out. Click the nice man with the megaphone to see them, and check back this week for much more! I’ll be posting to the HillyTown Twitter account from the Nateva Festival from tonight through Sunday morning, so follow that or just check back here for updates. We’ll have a full report on what we saw and heard early next week! With so many bands playing, it can be hard to know what you should check out. For me, it’s easy: Saturday is jam-packed with some of my own favorite bands, as well as some Portland locals starting the day off! At 11AM, Isobell wake campers up at the Port City Music Hall Stage before Brenda get going on the Main stage. At noon, Grand Hotel are up at PCMH stage while juggernauts of Maine music, Rustic Overtones, are on the Main stage. Later on in the day, Drive-By Truckers, She & Him, Grizzly Bear, and The Flaming Lips make for an indie rock dream lineup to lead us into the 4th of July. I wonder what Wayne Coyne may have up his sleeve… You can (supposedly – it’s not working for me at the moment) watch streams of performances from the festival here. Continuing the summer of new jams for Portland’s many indie bands, Elf Princess Gets A Harley has released Only Animals Eat Animals as a free (pay what you want, actually) digital album. Go get it, or check it out over on the sidebar as HillyTown’s current featured album! Bands interested in getting your music featured: we’re currently digging the way Bandcamp works, so if your music is up there (or really anywhere that we can easily embed a stream), let us know and maybe you’ll be next! |
