One of the first acts to really land on our radar at HillyTown and make a big impact was Lady Lamb The Beekeeper. It’s been a couple years now since that first show we caught at Slainte, and Aly Spaltro has since toured extensively, gotten amazing press, and moved to Brooklyn. This week, I […]
There isn’t much I can say to express the overwhelming fun of this show. I may have downplayed the significance of it being my last night in town leading up to the show, but the all-out-party that the evening brought was a perfectly fitting end to 3 years of living in Portland and working […]

This is a big weekend for parties with “o” bands at SPACE Gallery. Tomorrow there’s SPACE co-founder Jon Courtney’s birthday celebration with Oneida and Company, and then on Sunday it’s a HillyTown shindig (which the Free Press recommends) featuring o’death, with Butcher Boy and Splendora Colt (read a […]
Last night was one of the more fun shows I’ve shot in Portland. From the fun disco funk dance party of openers Midnight Magic, to the blissed-out synth-and-sample-heavy chillwave of Washed Out, to the face-melting dance jams (with a refreshingly hefty amount of noise guitar work) of Cut/Copy, this was an incredible show at […]
Last night, one of Portland’s premier music venues officially celebrated a milestone. One Longfellow Square has become a nonprofit organization (you can become a member here) and they celebrated with a special event to introduce their board of directors and welcome members and friends into their renovated space. Local artist (and musician) Pat Corrigan […]
On Sunday we took a short drive outside Portland to North Yarmouth, where 317 Main Street Community Center was holding their 7th annual HenryFest at Skyline Farm. The festival included a lineup of folk and bluegrass bands, plus food from Otto Pizza, Mr. Sippy BBQ, Maple’s Organic, and pies and cakes donated by volunteers. […]
I know I keep saying it, but A Robot has been doing a great job throwing awesome free shows at Flask Lounge. If you’re into fun, loud, diy-style shows on the floor of a neighborhood bar, these are for you. The fact that it’s the home of the Moxie Bomb (careful with those, kids) […]
Since we had a few bands coming up from NY to play Picnic, we wanted to give locals a chance to catch a longer performance than the daytime festival allowed, so we worked with A Robot Booking to throw the Official Picnic Afterparty at Geno’s on August 27. Portland’s The Deliberates and Vanityites joined […]
While the focus of Picnic Music + Arts Festival for many people is clearly the arts, with tons of great vendors selling handmade crafts, vintage finds, and tasty food all around Lincoln Park, we were focused largely on the music side of things, considering that HillyTown curated that portion of the festival. August 27 […]
While we were hanging out at Picnic (photos from that in a minute) and the ensuing afterparty (and perhaps an after afterparty or two…) world renowned banjo player Béla Fleck was at the State Theatre with the reunited original lineup of his band, the Flecktones, for a night of virtuosic music in support of […]
Guitar duo Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks returned to Portland last month for this show on at the Ocean Gateway on Portland’s waterfront, which Trombone Shorty opened. The new album by Tedeschi Trucks Band, Revelator, was mastered here in Portland by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering. Photos by Conall O’Brien.

For no reason in particular (OK, some moving, our own events to produce, hurricanes, etc. may have played into it a bit) we waited a whole month to get these photos out to share with you. In August, HillyTown photographer Conall O’Brien headed out to the weekend waterfront concert portion of KahBang Festival 2011 […]

This is another big weekend for us! Rain or shine, we’ll be outside all day tomorrow (Sat. 8/27) in Lincoln Park in Portland for the FREE Picnic Music + […]
Last weekend, a show with a spectacular lineup popped up in Kittery, having been moved from a venue in NH. Looks like the story is repeating itself, as this Friday, the Daytrotter Barnstormers 5 show (with Deer Tick, We Are Augustines, and more) has also been moved from NH to the venue pictured in […]
This week, we picked up the Scratchpad Reading Series torch, presenting the 7th iteration of the Mama’s Crowbar-hosted prose shindig on Tuesday, August 23rd. Check out the recap and photos here.
